Making stripes in the round is such a challenge. Whether it is a hat or armigurumi, you want your piece to look nice on all sides…not just the front. This used to make me totally curse because I am a perfectionist by nature and this just was not going to do.
Below is an excellent video by June Gilbank of Planet June which shows her method for making perfect stripes. I personally use her invisible method when making most things in the round as I am cutting off a color for a new one anyway. Here are her results followed by the video.
While she shows this using single crochet, I have used it with hdc and dc stitches. Also if you go to her blog page on perfect stripes, she has a video showing this method for left handed crocheters as well as written instructions.I have just found this to be invaluable to me. As I said I can be a persnickety perfectionist when it comes to these things. Thanks June!
Wow this is really handy, thank you! I’m always so frustrated with the pattern it shows on the back of an amigurumi project, I can’t wait to give this a go!
You’re welcome. It was a revelation for me when I first saw it too. I can’t stand making hats and having jogging stripes…bugs me to death. Goes to show, you can always learn something new in crochet ! 🙂
Totally! 😀
Love this! I’m putting a link to this on my site under “Tutorials”.
So glad it was useful for you. It was extremely useful for me when I found it 🙂
